AFL Player Performance Analysis – Tableau
Visualizing 15 Seasons of AFL Player Performance with Tableau
This project analyzes the performance of 600+ AFL players across 15 seasons using an interactive Tableau dashboard built from cleaned Excel match data. The objective was to turn static, multi-season spreadsheets into a dynamic tool that highlights player strengths, physical traits, and goal-scoring efficiency—giving coaches and analysts an edge in performance tracking and recruitment.
The dashboard visualizes key performance indicators such as average goals, assists, marks, and physical attributes like height and weight. Players are segmented by age group to surface trends in performance across different career stages. One insight revealed that players aged 28–30 had the highest average goals per game, while taller, heavier forwards showed stronger scoring outputs overall. Some veterans maintained consistent KPIs over time, offering strategic value for coaching decisions and scouting.
This project demonstrates strong skills in Tableau dashboard design, Excel data wrangling, and sports performance storytelling—delivering value to both technical and non-technical audiences in real time.
